New look ready for 2012 and it's about time we had more girls!

Not enough IT girls in NZ! In the UK, girls are doing some of the best work in the IT industry and NZ has a lot of catching-up to do.

Here's a dedicated site : http://www.womenintechnology.co.uk/girls-in-it-campaign

and here's there report: Women's_Careers_in_the_Technology_Industry_2011_Report.pdf

Using Apple's Pages - Table of Contents

For senior students, there often is an issue where large document (Reports, Dissertations) aught to be properly organised but most students are unaware that the Contents Page and be auto-managed by the Document itself. This means if you delete a section of the work or move pages / sections / chapters around the Contents page will sort out the order and page numbering for you.
Here's a video of me setting up a Contents page in Apple's Pages app. Note: Microsoft Word does the same.

A2 DESIGN

You must list the objectives of the new system, including the improvements you hope to make. You design all new paperwork for collecting and printing info. You design the screens that will be used. The database structure has to be drawn. TABLES linked with ID fields plus and QUERIES (searches) that will take place in the Database every week / day. You then can draw the new flowchart of how the job will be done with the new computer system.
Make sure you have a paragraph to accompany every drawing, flowchart and table design to help the Client / examiner understand the reason you have added it to your project.
Query example:
Attendance List Query
FIELDS: StuName; StuHouse; ClassAttend?; ClassDate='Today"
Note the Field Naming convention that indicates which TABLE each field is from.
Sign-Off - Just List the sections of the design work to be confirmed by your client as ok.

A2 ANALYSIS

After finishing Interview 1, you write up the current system with who does what using which paperwork and software. You flowchart the processes and in Interview 2 you check all this and talk about what you could use to do the job better. remember to keep the discussion open with both you and your client responding directly to answers and questions that come up. The final requirement Specification lists the tasks that take place, the HW & SW to be used, the calculations decisions that are made plus extra requests and ideas from the client. Make the Req Spec a sign-off document.
