  1. Android does offer keen programmers more access and freedom and will probably win the numbers game as far as Mobile Phone apps are concerned but Apple will continue to win the war on 2 fronts: 1. If people had to rank the quality of apps and we counted only those apps that were ranked as 'quality' apps then Apple will always outperform Android because of there simple quality and bug check through the app store. 2. There will only ever be a serious Tablet market for Apple. Most of the fortune 500 companies are now issuing ipads and iphones only.

  2. Oooo! Oooo! Platform fight! :P
I agree with your first point, but the Apple "quality control" often blocks out apps with functions that Apple don't allow, for whatever reasons. Partially because of this, many of the apps in the Apple store actually do the same thing, they just look a bit different. I mean, only a handful of apps from each "category" are actually used extensively by users. Android, however, being open-source, allows any apps. Even if there are bad apps, reviews and ratings online can help you with much more extensive details than the small "i love it" reviews in app stores. In other words, I would take diamonds hidden in a bag of dirt over a bag of pretty, polished but ordinary stones any day.

Your second point is somewhat flawed. There is no reason why manufacturers could not make a good tablet with their resources. Right now, they are just spending too much on advertising instead of on ironing out bugs in the software on the actual products. This is also partially the reason the Xoom failed to meet consumers' expectations; the software was flawed, but the advertisements raised the expectations to unfulfillable levels. Things change. My hope is that 'Mr Motorola' (and others) realise that even millions worth in advertising won't sell a flawed product.
